The Downs 3-4 Western Gaels 0-9
Hard luck to our u-17s in the division 3 league final tonight in Garrycastle. A brave home performance fell just short as The Downs’ ability to get goals proved crucial.
The away side opened quickly with a lobbed goal but Western Gaels got on top to lead 0-6 to 1-1 at half time.
In a tense second half, Western Gaels had the gap out to 3 (0-8 to 1-2) at the three quarter mark. The eventual victors levelled with another goal only for the home side to regain the lead.
A third goal proved crucial and The Downs picked off 2 late points late on to guarantee the win.
Congratulations to The Downs on their win. The Western Gaels lads can keep their heads up as they left everything on the field and can look forward to the championship campaign.
